I Want to Live My Art
“I don't just want to paint about environmental collapse and the displacement of women. I want to live my art—stepping out from behind the easel to repair in real life what I explore on canvas.”
— Meron Engida Hawke
Fine Art, Ecology, and Livelihood
This collection transforms Meron Engida Hawke's original paintings into 100% Italian-printed silk twill scarves, paired with a keepsake pouch hand-loomed by women artisans in Ethiopia
Crafted from unbleached, raw organic cotton, the fabric retains natural botanical seed flecks—celebrating traditional way making and connecting you directly to the living nature of Ethiopia, and sustaining fair, dignified livelihoods for local craftswomen.
Engida Hawke’s vision bridges fine art with purpose—fostering empowerment, hope, and community. Every piece honors heritage craft, with 10% of proceeds donated to the TREE Foundation to help protect and restore Ethiopia’s ancient church forests.
SUSTAINABLE SCARF PRODUCTION
Once completed, the colour illustrations are digitally printed; This method is more environmentally friendly than traditional screen-printing, using far less water, and our Italy based printing machines use solar power.
Meron Engida Hawke chooses to work with natural, high-quality fabrics, namely silk, echoing the themes and natural reverence in her work through her choice of materials.
The printed fabrics are handed to a team of highly skilled Italian artisans who hand-roll, stitch or hand-fringe the edges of the design, finishing each scarf in its final form.
